The paper back version is pretty good, it is portable and you can therefore take it anywhere you go. It is not the book or recipes but it is a good introduction to how foods work with or against the body. ALthough, there are many diet books sold today, this one seems to be written by a Cardiologist. The phase 1 is probably the hardest probably since it is the time when you have to give up many of your favorite foods like fruit juice,caffeinated coffee,alcohol,sugary drinks and candy ,many fruits. You start out mostly eating fish,Chicken,beef,eggs,nuts,vegatable juice,water,other vegetables. Phase II you can start to introduce a few more foods but you are still off of honey and sugar, you can use Splenda if you want to make things a little sweeter. Phase III you can start eating things like Kraft Cereals,pizza,granola bars,frozen breakfast burritos. The idea is that you should always feel full, that you should not feel starving or your body will be acting against you. You might lose weight quickly who knows. Believing high glycemic foods are bad for you, this diet book leaves out most pastas, white flour bread, potatoes, and rich desserts. Rather one is to eat lean meat, eggs, and salads. As a non-pill approach to a healthier heart, this is a lifelong diet. The doctor includes the rationale for this diet, patient testimonials, and acceptable recipes for each of the 3 phases. Not as extreme as some fad diets, this one is researched, reputable, and has been around for quite awhile. This paperback book is readable and recommended.

I bought the book and cookbook to lose 10 - 15 pounds. I lost 8 pounds in the first 5 days and have managed to keep it off since I purchased the books 4 weeks ago. I priced these books elsewhere and found that they were a GREAT bargain. The material was very easy to understand and gives a lot of valuable information that a person needs to know if they want to make this reasonable lifestyle change. Half of this book is dedicated to recipes. However, I found that purchasing the 30 minute recipe book was very beneficial in providing additional recipes that taste great! Today I feel healthier and I see that over time I'll be able to reach my weight loss goal. It provides scientific explanations of how our bodies process foods, which is very helpful when trying to lose weight. I put away all my Weight Watchers tools and forgot about having to count everything I put in my mouth. Giving up bad carbs (although I can indulge once in a while) has set me free. I was addicted to them. I've lost about 8 lbs in three weeks. It's a no brainer diet. This is truly an excellent book for a diet that actually works! I personally lost 20 pounds on and it was not painful to do so. Within weeks the changes started taking shape. The book works because it clearly explains the principals of the diet while including receipts by top chefs that follow the plan. You will be pleased with how good most of the meals are. I have bought several copies of this book and passed it on to others who could benefit from its contents. I believe that you could as well! We can all stand to loose a few extra pounds for the benefit of our own health.
The South Beach Diet is the way to go! The book is well written in layman's terms and the diet is easy to follow. Buying on eBay is the only way to go. I live in a rural community and a trip to "town" is time consuming, as well as costly,with the cost of gas today. I love to shop on eBay and have my purchases delivered to my mailbox. And, if you need to lose weight in a healthy, sensible manner, try the South Beach Diet. Friends and relatives are following the program and feeling satiated, eating good food and dropping pounds and inches at an amazing rate. Go For It!!!
